| Title | Young Navajo Woman, by James Gunter |
| Artist | Gunter, James |
| Description | I like the play of cool and warm tones off of each other and the play of darks and lights. The way some shapes in this profile echo each other were of particular interest in my chosen composition. Individuality is important; of the many people I've drawn or painted over the years, each have their own unique features such as you see in this young Navajo woman. A mathematician, Marston Morse wrote, "Mathematics are the result of mysterious powers which no one understands, and in which the unconscious recognition of beauty must play an important part. Out of an infinity of designs a mathematician chooses one pattern for beauty's sake and pulls it down to earth." About the Artist: James Gunter has been drawing since a child in Virginia. He began displaying his works of art while in Pennsylvania and has now become a resident of Utah. James has won a number of awards for his paintings and drawings. His man interest is in portraits and the figure and is beginning to explore the landscape in oil and pastel. |
| Medium | Pastel on paper, 10" x 12" |
