Abstract
There is a lot of information published about which teaching strategies are most effective for English language learners . This case study focused on one model of instruction , the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) , and involved the observation of a first grade teacher who was implementing the model for the first time . It seeks to answer how the components of SIOP were used , how the teacher determined lesson objectives using SIOP , which components were used the most , and the teacher's unique perspective on the effectiveness of the model for English language learners .
