FRADEWIND . '" I VOL. 4, NO. 12 UTAH TECHNICAL COLLEGE OF PROVO JANUARY 26, 196 Second Annual Women we&TOir's Wife T Lucybeth Rampton, '.vtfe of Governor Calvin L. Rampton, will begin the Focus on Women Conference at 10:00 a.m., on Feb. 4, with a discussion on the "Future of Women in Utah. Mrs. Rampton was born in Washington, D.C. Her elementary education was in Bozeman, Montana, Cedar City, Salt Lake City and Logan, Utah. She had what she terms 'a cross country college education spending her freshman year at the University of California, sophomore and junior year at Utah State University, one semester at George Washington University, then graduating from Utah State University in June, 1936. After graduation, Lucybeth worked as a Secretary in Washington, D.C. She met Calvin L. Rampton of y a JAN TYLER is an assistant Professor of Child Developement and Family Relationship at BYU. 4 4 SANDRA HAGGERTY is an Asst. Professor of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Utah. s Conference Bountiful, Utah, who was then working for Utah congressman J.W. Robinson. Lucybeth and Calvin Cal" Rampton were married in Washington. They returned to Utah and the first year of their marriage, they lived in Bountiful. They moved to Salt Lake City and have lived in the capifor city since that time. Mrs. Rampton engaged herself in raising a family of four and with other traditional activities, church work, P.T.A., volunteer civic work, etc. She then returned to college in 1958. As she so aptly state, "I spent six lovely years getting a Masters of Arts degree in Anthropology. Presently, she has set aside her ambition to obtain a Ph.D. Because of the hectic schedule of being 'Utah's first lady. Lucybeth has served as a mem- v fj CT.:.. J. Der on the Board of Drugs, Ballet West, Museum of Natural History. She has served as Honorary Chairman for Children's Center, Heritage Foundation. She worked with the P.T.A. and as volunteer for the cancer society. Mrs. Rampton, a woman of great warmth and vitality, is often requested to 'chair many honorary functions too numerous to list. FoUowing Mrs. Rampton on the program, "Women in nontradi-j tional Occupations and Pre-Tech Department Overview will then be discussed at 10:45 by Mashelle Boswell, MaryBethers, Iris Jolley, and Marsha Hacking, all of which are fellow UTC students and graduates. Mary Bethers graduated in general Education. Iris Jolley graduated in diesel mechanics and is now employed by Cummins Diesel. Marsha Hacking and Mashelle Boswell are working on degrees in electronics and cabinetry, respectively. Jan Tyler will then proceed at 11:30 with a speech on "self-concept Development." Jan was born in Los Angeles, California. She spent her first college years at Brigham Young University obtaining a B.S. in speech, drama and music. She then went to (BYU) Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, and finally at Arizona State Uni-veristy got an M.A. in counseling and student personnel work. In the past, Jan Tyler has served as director of the Family Consultation Center of BYU's College of Family Living. Presently she is Asst. Professor of Child Development and Family Relationships at BYU. Miss Tyler is listed in the third and ninth Edition of "World's Who's Who of Women" and selected Outstanding Young Womenfor the state of Utah, 1973, Delta Kappa Gamma. Jan has seved in and directed many organizations as well. Directly following Miss Tyler, at 12:20 , is a free luncheon for UTC students, ($1.00 for Provo BBAC Organized Provo City has organized a Better Business Affairs Committee. The committee will be surveying the local problems in the community and acting as an arbitrator for all business related complaints. The first meeting of the BBAC was held on Wednesday, January 21, 1976. Jim Green was chosen to represent UTC with another student, Mike Reall, representing BYU. The BBAC would like a female voice on the committee, says Green. Anyone interested should contact Green in die business office, TK 101, or through Don Black, UTC Business instructor. The committee will be ready for operation by Feb. 1. Anyone having complaints prior to Feb. 1 may contact the BBAC with a written statement complaint. Sandra Haggerty will lecture on the topic of the 'Similarities Between Sexism and Racism" at 1:00. Sandra is currently Asst. Professor of Journalism and Mass Communicatin at University of Utah. Previously, she served nine years as syndicated solumnist on the L.A. Times Syndicate. A grauate of Utah State University and the mother of three daughters, she teaches courses in Parallels of Sexism and Racism in America; Magazine Article Writing; Editorial and Colum Writing; Beginning Writing and Reporting for the Media; and Minorities and the Media. At 2:00, 'There is still Hope for the American Male" will be J DR. HUGH GILLILAN will discuss 'There Is Still Hope For The American Male" at the conference. Governor Calvin L.Rampton, will in Utah." discussed by Dr. Hugh Gillilan. Dr. Gillilan is a licensed psychologist, marriage and family counselor at the Center for Human Development in Salt Lake City. In the past, Hugh Gillilan has served as Asst. Professor of Psychology and college counselor at Westminster College; staff psychologist at Granite Community Mental Health Center; Associate Instructor Division of Continuing Education at the University of Utah and had a private practice in 1972. Dr. Gillilan will also moderate a panel consisting of Lavar Rockwood, Dr. Wayne Kearny and Dennis Farnsworth, all of UTC, beginning at 2:45. The panel will hold a question and answer period on 'Partnership Marriage." In conclusion, a conference wrap-up and evaluation will take place at 3:45. 4 '$
