UTAH VALLEY STATE COLLEGE FY IDlLvMulfiillJlfi TIM EL BUEN PANO EN EL ARCA SE VENDE MONDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2003 VOLUME 32 ISSUE 36 By ReBecca Taylor VetWews Staff "He just loves to be with his family," said Cory Duckworth, Vice President for Student Affairs and Strategic Planning. Duckworth has been a friend of President Sederburg for the past 4 years. "He's very family oriented!" President Sederburg is quite the family man. He met his wife, Joyce, while attending Michigan State. She loves getting into Educational issues which is a passion they both share. Sederburg recalls that she was in charge of a local head start class, which taught under privilegedpre-schoolers. Little did she know, she recruited her future husband when she asked Sederberg to help out with the class. They dated for a good two years, and then married in 1972. Joyce is now a school Psychologist. She loves to help people in general. Sederburg said she especially loves helping kids with special problems. "Once, Joyce had to test a kid whose brain was outside of his head. She was just so happy about helping him, and loved to tell us about it." It is clear he loves his wife by the way he smiles when talking about her. The couple picked up their life and moved to Utah last Spring. They made the decision as a team. They said it is a little hard to get situated due to their Lutheran beliefs, but they both agree that they already love Utah. After his first six years in office Sederburg said, "I realized that I didn't particularly enjoy politics, but I did enjoy working with higher education issues." That is when he committed to university work. After 12 long years in poli tics and about three and a half years in consulting, he moved on to become the 16th president of Ferris State University in Michigan. rri II f si - it- : - ;7. - ' - -' - I I II "When Bill Sederburg went to Ferris President Sederburg enjoys meeting and mi with students whenever he can. Sederburg has wasted no time getting things done. "I have been on a whirlwind schedule since coming here in June. I've met thousands of people. I've been impressed with the school and its potential," said Sederburg.Within his first 100 days spent at Utah Valley State College he has already perked ears and raised eyes of students, faculty, and community members by realigning structure and changing policies, all while adding his personable touch to the college. Just two months into his residency at UVSC he shuffled up the administration by cutting two vice president positions, and rearranging the duties of the remaining four. Elaine Englehardt and Doug Warner, former vice presidents of scholarship and outreach, and finance and human resources, were offered new positions as associate vice presidents. "Everybody has lost something, and that's a bitter pill to swallow," Sederburg said after announcing the change in August. "I want to thank Elaine Englehardt and Doug Warner for their professionalism."Sederburg also arranged a new position, Assistant to the President to strengthen his office. Cameron Martin, ' 1 00 days" continued on P9. 5 Mm By Brian Hassler p.rHsS!a After weeks of talk and rumors, the Provo Angels and UVSC have announced that following the construction of a new stadium on UVSC's campus, the Angels will play at UVSC in the 2005 season. The new stadium, to be called Parkway Crossing Stadium, will cost between 3.3 and 3.8 million and will be built on the existing baseball field with the exception that the field will be turned to east. Developers Craig Pickering and Heath Johnston were responsible for $1.7 million in donations to help push forward the construction of the stadium and to secure the naming rights of the stadium. UVSC, Provo officials, and other donors have raised $3.1 million in addition to Pickering and Johnston's donations for the cost of the stadium construction. Construction will begin in January and should take between 9-12 months to be completed. There will be 2,400 chair scats and bleacher and grass seating for another I i..lt.it.
