TRADEWIND VOLUME 5 No. 28 v :i & 0 11 s ..mm- Blake Buheln Primary elections were held on Tuesday, April 26, to elect st'j-:nt body officers The candidates still in the race after the primary elections are Dennis Cowden, president and Chris Anderson, vice president; Blake Buhler, president, with Lori Hart as his running mate for vice presidential position. Rodeo to By Jo Ann DeHaas UTC's Annual Rodeo will be held at the Wasatch County Fairgrounds in Heber City, Utah, May 13 and 14, not at Weber State Fairgrounds in Ogden as stated in last weeks news story. Heber City is located 26 miles up Provo Canyon. UTC's rodeo club is sponsoring the event that will include performers from 12 colleges and universities from Utah and Southern Idaho. Students and rodeo fans Bob Davis displays two of his first place medals. He will be one of the participants May 13 and 14 Rodeo. 1 I ., s I ibtiiwiifcwooi'irn Running for Student Awareness and Academics Vice President are Raridy heater, with Karen Lephart as his opposition. Also on the ticket, but with no opposition are Ellen Croten-stein, Social Vice President; Ingrid Logan, Cultural Vice President; and Sally Hull, Intramurals Vice President. Be Held are invited to see UTC's top cowboys in action. Lewis Field, Bob Davis, and Johnny Roche will be among those competing for the awards. UTC's Rodeo Club Team Captain, Lewis Field is the leading contender in point standings for the Rocky Mountain Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association's 1977 award for Ail-Around Top Cowboy. He finished second for the top spot and competed in the College National Finals in Boosman, Montana that concluded the rodeo season last year. If they have four legs, are filled with spirit, and it's dangerous, Field rides them. He participates in bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding, bulldogging, and team roping. Lewis has amassed four first place buckles thus far this season. One of the first place buckles Field received was in a team roping event with partner, Jim Rukavina. This was previous to Rukavina's tussle with a bull that hospitalized him during the UTC-Salt Lake Rodeo held at Lagoon. Other first place awards have been for team roping and saddle bronc riding. He reports a total of 23 buckles that adorn UTAH TECHNICAL COLLEGE at PROVO '.-.. -v, . Lori Hart According to reports, only about 200 total students voted in ii.t primary elections. Students are urged to participate in the upcoming final elections. The general election will be held on May 3 in the main lobby at the Provo Campus and in the main lobby of the Business Building in Orem. in lleher his collection of horsemanship awards. Lewis is from Peoa, Utah, and majors in Building Construction. This season completes his three years of eligibility for the UTC Rodeo Team. He would like to continue participating in rodeo action, possibily at Utah State University next fall, he states. Bob Davis has also added first place buckles to his collection for outstanding performances in team roping and bulldogging this season. Calf roping is also one of his specialities. Davis is a welding major, and after graduation this June he plans on working and riding in the Rocky Mountain Rodeo Association's events held in the area. A newcomer to UTC's Rodeo Team, Johnny Roche, won a first place belt buckle in his first rodeo competion. Roche joined tlie team winter quarter and received the award of top performer in the bareback riding event of the College of Southern Idaho Rodeo event in Twin Falls, Idaho. Tremonton, Utah, is his hometown. He is majoring in the diesel mechanics program at UTC. UTC's Rodeo Team is currently in third place in the regional standings.
