HANSEN PLANETARIUM announces the return of the world's best television commercials, the CLIO award winners to the Star Theater. Presentation of the award winners has been a popular springtime event at Hansen Planetarium for many years. Winners are presented several times daily through May and are free with admission to the Planetarium's main features. MULTI-CULTURAL FAMILY support group has formed and meets monthly to promote friendship and understanding. It is called the 'Friend to Friend' Biracial Family Support Group, for information contact Helen Mortensen at 785-1480. PARTY AT SEVEN PEAKS IS being sponsored by the owners of Texas Pride Barbecue. ON April 19 from 5-1 1 p.m. they will have live music, outdoor games, and a real Texas style barbecue dinner. Every student who needs to let it all out before finals is invited . Tickets can be purchased at Mama's Cafe at 840N 700 E. UVSC IS LOOKING FOR presidential ambassador council members next semester. "I think this is a great step forward for the institution," said UVSC President Kerry Romesburg. "And this is just the beginning; this is going to expand. I think this shows that the community needed a four-year degree and that the students wanted the opportunity."The graduates are part of the first four-year graduating class at UVSC since it's four- Business expo entertains consumers year accreditation in 1992. 20 students graduated with a Business Management Bachelor of Science, six graduated with Technology Management Bachelors of Science and one student graduated with a Computer Science & Information Systems Bachelor of Science. Dr. Karl Worthington, associate VP of academic affairs said UVSC was "quite a bit ahead of the number of graduating students that we had projected." "It's very exciting," said Worthington, "These student will have the opportunity to get jobs, make some impact, give some indication to us of how our degree recipients are used and hopefully enhance their lives considerably."1994-95 Student Body President Shad Sorenson, who worked toward UVSC's accreditation, says he is proud to be one of the 27 graduates this year. Business members throughout the community, gathered together in the halls of UVSC, on Friday, April 14, to create the largest turnout ever for the 10th Annual Utah Valley Business Expo. This year, nearly 1 70 businesses in Utah County set up displays at the Expo, tc inform the public of their services. UVSC was chosen as the host this year because of the need for the extra space. Last year the Expo was held at Provo Park Hotel, but they had to turn away more than 60 exhibitors due to the lack of space. "The Expo has grown considerably since the first year," said Brett Barrett, chairman of the Business Expo. Barrett recalled that when he was elected five years ago as the chairman of the Expo, they only had $2,500, no sponsors and no affiliation. In 1989, the Expo committee voted unanimously to become part of the ProvoOrem Chamber of Commerce. The name was then changed from the Utah Valley Business and Industry Fair to the Utah Valley Business Expo. "My first year on the committee, I was calling frantically one and two days before the event pleading with nonprofit organizations to just come and sit behind a table to fill up the Expo," said Barrett. "We had only 50 exhibitors that year." After that year, Malcom Beck, the longest standing committee member, went out and recruited sponsors for the Expo. Utah Valley Regional Medical Center and International Health Care became sponsors with $900 a year. This year, The Deseret News was the primary sponsor. Other sponsors include IHC and Enrich International, the latter donating $2000 towards a business scholarship offered by the Expo this year. "This year we are literally twice as big as last year," said Barrett. "Our budget has allowed us to spend appropriate amounts on tickets, signs, newspaper and radio advertising." See BUSINESS, Page 7 UVSC honors outstanding students for 1 995 Katie McKim News Editor On April 12, UVSC honored the outstanding students for the academic year of 1994-95. The achievement awards were presented to students that excelled in specific academic areas. Students that received the achievement award had to be selected by one of the departments within the three colleges. The College of Business, the College of Technology, Trades & Industry, and the College of Humanities, Math & Science. UVSC faculty members chose anywhere from 1-3 students depending upon the size of the program. The students were not only honored for their academic success, but they were acknowledged for their overall excellence. Many UVSC students were excited that the college was honoring those students that put forth the extra effort.
