fe7 n f mm Volume 10 Number 34 OFFICIAL NEWSPAPER OF UTAH TECHNICAL COLLEGE AT PROVOOREM July 26, 1982 Kegtstataon Moves To Computers By Dave Poison The registration schedule for the fall 1982 quarter has been announced by Grant Cook, head of registration at Utah Technical College, ProvoOrem. On August 5, 1982, Registration packets containing class schedules, registration forms, instructions and reply envelopes will be mailed to all continuing students. The packet will be mailed to students' permanent mailing address. Registration for continuing students will begin on August 9, 1982 and continue until September 17, 1982. Registration forms may be delivered in person or mailed in. Mailed in forms must be postmarked on or before September 10, 1982. Registration and orientation for new students will be form September 20 to 24, at which time all new students and returning students, who missed pre-regintration, may register. All students registering at this time mstfollow the time schedule set forth inthe class schedule, Class schedules will be available from the Business Office after August 9 at a cost of fifty cents each. For those who do not i-eeeive one in the mail. Students are cautioned by Mr. Cook to read all instructions carefully prior to filling out registrtion froms or attempting to register. Students should also bring class schedule to registration with them. Students attending school on the GI Bill are encouraged to register early and to contact the VA office, on the Orem campus, to avoid disruption of benefits during September and October. Counselor Training On Tech Staff Kathy Spencer is doing her counseling training at Utah Tech and is currently working at the LRC, with Tom Keel. She will be receiving her Masters Degree in Education, emphasizing Counseling, in August, from BYU. Kathy works in all areas concerning social, emotional, vocational and academic problems and is available fqr anyone w,ho would like to talk with her. She is a teacher in the Alpine School District and is the mother of three young daughters. ' I , ' " ' .. ' I.! I X: x, i ! X . The registration desk on the Provo campus is being remodeled to accomodate the new computer system to be used in registration this fall. The new counter will have four separate computer terminals and four cashier windows to speed up the registration process. As a result of the new system, the registration proceedures will be changed to speed up registration. There will only be two steps to register. Students will simply present their completed registration form at the registration desk, where the form will be run through a scantron machine, which will enter the student's schedule on the computer. Next, the student proceeds to the cashier's window and pays the necessary fees and tuition. Upon payment, the student is officially registered. Some of the benefits of this new system are: class roll sheets may be distributed to instructors on the first day of class, classes will not be closed until actually filled. There are no computer cards to get lost, students may varify schedule on registration and students may mail in registration forms if and changes in registration must take place on the Provo campus. Career Center Open For Use The Career Center located in the student center area is opened to serve students in the areas of placement, career orientation, student and employer recruitment, and general college information. The center functions as an umbrella system for a wide variety of student oriented system and projects. 1. The center will provide placement services for employees and students. 2. It will provide wage related data and specialized career services for students. Training services for students, employees and college personnel are also offered.
