The annual event brought many local health-related businesses to UVSC's campus to educate students, faculty, and staff about being healthy in the 90's and to increase awareness about different health risks which are in the world today. - This event was originally founded by student government a few years ago with the intent of promoting health awareness to all those who wanted to maintain healthy lives and get into shape. A few years after that, the Wellness Center, with Connie Kitchens at the helm, began to co-sponsor the annual affair. With this merger, the health fair took off. Some of the local businesses that were invited to help complete the fair included Powerhouse Gym and Paradise Health Club. Both organizations helped demonstrate ways if getting more out of your body by exercising. The Utah Valley Chiropractic Clinic, along with Lifestyles 2000 Health, Page 9 Jenny Sabin, of Joe Kader Utah Valley Kempo, performs Kata steps during Health Week. Funding for education centers opposed Craig Harter Senior News Editor Utah Governor, Mike Leavitt recently removed funding from UVSC and several other Utah colleges, from the $5 billion budget for 1996-97 school year. The proposed budget plan will not only affect UVSC, but several Utah colleges throughout Utah. Aside from the expansion which needs to take place, UVSC has another problem to worry about. The budget plan will not allow the school to pay the leases on the education centers. The budget plan that Leavitt proposed contains $31.7 million which is to be budgeted for higher education in Utah; $2.7 million of which will be given to UVSC, which will affect the leases on three of the school's education centers, namely those in American Fork, Heber City, and the Provo Airport, leaving no other options but to sell the property. The Park City education center is the only center that will not be affected by the budget, due to the fact that there is not a lease to be paid.
