The festivities start on Tuesday, Feb. 11, and run through Friday, Feb. 14. The theme for the 1997 Homecoming Week is "Welcome to the Future." The Homecoming events are sponsored by the Student Enrollment Statistics Report Andrea Johnson Staff Writer The recently released enrollment characteristics report for the fall of 1996 semester reveled that the average age of students is decreasing. The report noted that the college has seen a 5 overall growth rate, with the total number of students increasing from 14, 041 students in the fall of 1995 to 14, 756 in 1996. The average age of the Alumni Ambassadors. The co-sponsors are the ASUVSC (Student Government), the Inter-Club Council (ICQ, the Advancement Offices and College Relations. The purpose of Homecoming Week is to promote some school spirit. "Homecoming is one way to ... get the students involved and say 'lock we've come a long tB 9 i student body at UVSC has dropped to 22.2 years. Terry Haas, Director or Institutional Research feels that the reduction in age is chiefly due to the concurrent enrollment programs that UVSC has developed with high schools in the area. UVSC is moving forward whether the students want it to or not," said Sheila Banister, Student Alumni Ambassador and Public Relations director for Student Government. "If nothing else, come out and get some free entertainment." The event for Tuesday will be a Twister Contest. This is a traditional event that will determine which lucky student will trade places with President Romesburg for a day. This student will attend the President's scheduled activities and the President will attend that student's classes. This year the celebrations will include aTrade-Places-with-President-Romesburg day, a Twister Contest and a 400 foot long sub sandwich. Don't miss out. UVSC recently received the budget recommendations from the Legislative Analyst. According to President Kerry D. Romesburg, the recommendation is for a 0.22 percent increase in spending for higher education for 1997-98. Wednesday will be a day full of Spirit Contests; events such as tug-of-war, arm-wrestling chug contests, eating contests and many more. These events will take place at the end of the Hall of Flags near the Science Building at noon. Wednesday is also the day that President Romesburg will trade places with the winner of Tuesday's Twister Contest. Thursday will be a terrific day for all those hungry students. There will be a 400 foot sub sandwich in the Hall of Flags at noon. The price for a piece of the giant sandwich will be 2 dollars for a 6 inch portion and 4 dollars for a foot long. Homecoming winds up with Friday's list of events which include The Dating Game and a band near the Wolverine Cuisine (downstairs cafeteria) from noon to 1 p.m. See 1997, p 5 many things going unfunded," said Romesburg. "The Legislative Leadership is suggesting that the State not fund the cost of the Federal increase in minimum wage." The suggestion has also been made that the State not give UVSC any funds to cover the increased cost in Risk Management premiums (the State's self-insurance program). If you are not a member of the Theatre Guild, there will be a $2.00 charge at the door. "This meeting will provide those in attendance with invaluable understanding of what is involved in stage managing and creating the illusions you see on the theatrical stage each time you attend a performance." Law Society will be having its annual Valentine cookie sale on Feb. 13 and 14, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Hall of Flags. Those interested in placing advance orders may do so now by railing Kirsten Poelman at 227-3261 or Kathy Bybee at 222-8489 and leaving the order on their voice mail. Advance orders can be picked up in the Legal Studies office, BU 203, on Feb. 13 and 14. ' Job-Career Fair '97 Ml Wednesday, Feb. 26, 1997 4m from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the UVSC Hall of Flags. This is a great opportunity where students and graduates can shop while looking for "good jobs" and "employment opportunities" in their career field.
