UVSC placed fourth in formation dance competition behind Slov-inea, Germany and Great Britian. In September, UVSC will compete at the California Nationals Competition where they will compete against BYU for the first time. Asbell said UVSC has worked hard to develop a credible ballroom dance company that compares to BYU's world-renowed ballroom dance program. "What they have done as a two-year college dance team is phenomenal," said Lucile T. Stoddard, UVSC vice president for academic affairs. Last Tuesday, July 27, the college put on an open house to honor the expansions of the Learning Resource Center and the Sorensen Student Center. The remodeling has been in effect for approximately four years, but the hard work finally paid off with the opening of the new facilities. Four separate events marked the occasion that day, leading from the Student Center to the library to a theatrical display. Val Peterson coordinated the four different organizations.Besides the red tape of two ribbon cuttings and a formal dedication, the guests were treated to refreshments, the sealing of a time capsule, hypnotizing music by harpist Melanie Mitton, and the production of "On Stage." UVSC to solicit donations UVSC will start a new tradition by soliciting planned gift donations normally given to larger institutions such as major universities, churches, and hospitals. Since June, 1987, UVSC has re-cieved gifts totaling more than $3 million. Funds have come from bequests, charitable remainder trusts and life insurance policies, said Alden B. Tueller, director of planning giving at UVSC. "Planned charitable giving is common among 4-year colleges, universities, large churches and . hospitals," Tueller said.
