Many activities and performances have been scheduled in order to represent and enhance the General Studies area of the school. Monday, March 5 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., UVCC students and local talent will be performing in the cafeteria. The cast of "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," will also perform scenes from the play. That night at 8:00 p.m. the production will be presented in the Student Center ballroom. General Studies displays and booths will be located outside the Student Government office. Wednesday, March 7, at noon, there will be a Brown Bag Forum in the ballroom. The speaker will be announced. Thursday, March 8, at noon, the UVCC forensics team will be presenting a Readers Theater in the lunchroom. The various colleges and universities througlfput the state will be represented at a College Fair located outside the Student Government office. UVCC Advisement will also advise students on the semester process for next year. Friday, March 9, at noon in the lunchroom, the Student Council will be introducing the Ombudsman Office to the school and will be providing information about ASUVCC elections. The week will be capped off with a library dance that night from 9:00 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. Volume Eighteen, Number Eighteen Wednesday, February 28, 1990 If ..Charlie Brown" Trades Fair draws large crowds starts j;lurscjav r : - - - - H " By April Morris Staff Writer Trie Trades Fair took place Monday and Tuesday in the Gun-ther Trades Building with a number of interesting displays from each of the departments in the Trades Technology division. The display from the Refrigeration department showed how the motor of a refrigerator runs. The Drafting department had several displays of drafting projects. There were computers set up where students could work on their projects and people passing by could see how it was done. The Auto Body and Collision Repair department had a large display of cars. Some were cars which had been repaired and restored, including a 1923 Model A Ford. The new cars in the main hall were donated for the display by local dealers to show new features which students will be working on in the future, including anall-plastic body. One of the repaired cars was a 1967 Buick Wildcat The owner of the vehicle set up a scholarship for the student who did the restoration work. The Diesel department displayed a semi belonging to the Professional Driving department on the Provo campus. There were also tractors, other semis and a truck that was repaired for free labor when the owner bought the parts. V... -J By Katrina Coombs Staff Writer Charlie Brown and the popular Peanuts gang from Charles Shultz will come to life Thursday as the UVCC Theatre department opens its production of "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown." This musical production, based on the comic strip, will be performed by students and members of the community. "We are pleased to bring to life this modern classic," said Kim Brewster, UVCC department chairman of humanities, English, and fine arts. "The Peanuts Gang of Charles Shultz has helped make this play the most often-produced show in America for the past 20 years." Cathy Johnston, guest director and music teacher at American Fork Junior High is the showsdirector. The cast is headed by TJ. Brewster as Charlie Brown. Sob Brewster plays Snoopy, Mary Ann Fitt is Lucy, Boyd Andrus is Linus. Rounding out the cast are Mark Ford as Schroeder and Jennifer Clark as Patty. Highlights of the show include such things as a book report on Peter Rabbit, an attack of the Red Baron, the baseball game, and the well-known Charlie Brown classic "Happiness is..." Dinner theatre performances will begin Thursday and Friday evenings at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $5.00 for students and $10.00 for non-students and must be purchased in advance at the Student Center. Regular performances will begin at 8:00 p.m. Saturday, March 3 and Monday, March 5. Tickets for these performances are $3.00 for students and $4.00 for nonstudents. The new computer analysis programmable controller that runs UVCC hosts men's Region Tournament machine, recently purchased by the school for $13,000 was also on display. It is used for checking emissions and other trouble shooting in auto repair. The Robotics department from Provo Campus had a display with a residential burglar and fire alarm, a traffic lights and elevators, a robot, and a variable frequency drive. Joe Dalton, ASUVCC Trades Senator, expressed appreciation to everyone who participated in the fair, and to all who took the time to view the Trades Fair displays. By Todd McKee Staff Writer With UVCC wins Friday and Saturday over Snow and Dixie Colleges, the men's basketball team has earned the right to host the Region 18 Tournament March 8-10. The tournament will bring the top eight teams in the region to Utah Valley. The winner of the tournament will go on to compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association National Tournament to be March 19-22.
