TRADEWIND 1 I VOLUME 3, NUMBER 20 LaVerl Crosby became the new U.T.C. studentbody President in a studentbody vote taken on April 4 and 5. At a midnight movie, "Trinity", on Friday, April at the Fox Theater, LaVerl was informed by Randy Kidman, the outgoing Studentbody President as a general announcement to the studentbody. At that time, the names of the new Vice President and Women's Vice President were also announced. R6n Boyd was elected Vice President and Marilyn Bounous is the new Women's Vice President. These new officers will be interviewing individuals to fill the other offices necessary to keep U.T.C. running smoothly for the next year. Any person wishing to spply Blood Donations Needed From U.T.C. Students Phi Beta Lambda Heads Blood Drive PBL is calling for participation in school activities. Many students and faculty are unaware of the blood bank held in reserve at the Utah Valley Hospital. This blood bank is for the UTC faculty and students and their families. The hospital is asking UTC to replace the blood that has been used by UTC students. UTC is now drawing blood from the general blood bank at the hospital, and this must be replaced along with our UTC blood bank. The hospital asks that we replace 50 pints of blood. It is imperative that this blood be replaced, because-of the different types needed and because blood is perishable. The qualifications for donating blood are that each for one of these appointed offices should contact the new President or Vice-President for more information concerning the duties of each of the available offices and the procedure for being interviewed.One of the duties of the newly elected officials is to plan the budget of the school for the next fiscal year, as well as determine the events and activities for the studentbody. The new officers will be expected to learn their duties and obligations as soon as possible. To help them to do this, there will be a leadership conference in May, in which the various problems of the school and each individual will be discussed and possible solutions offered. TRADEWINDS offers their participant be between the ages of 18 and 65, and in good health. Those not eligible for donating blood are those who have had any of the following diseases: hepatitis, malaria, syphilis, or tuberculosis. Donors are not eligible for 3 years after returning to the United States if they have resided temporarily in a malaria area. Visitors to a malaria area are not eligible for 6 months after return to the United States. There are certain restrictions on other diseases. Maggie Davies, who is coordinator for the UTC blood bank, can answer all questions for those in doubt as to their eligibility for giving blood. COLLEGE PROVO LaVerl Crosby President UTC Students Participate In T.locli Legislature' March 27th Randy Kidman, Studentbody President, Dave Nelsen, Student Awareness Officer, Shirley Reynolds, and Sharon Ferre went to the Utah State capitol and took over the, position of state legislator and House of Representatives in a mock legislation. During their four day stay in Salt Lake they covered such things as:capitol punishment, day care centers, telephone tariff, sales and use tax exemptions,out-of-state-students, residence and voting, federal reserve system auditing, students housing, and Faculty Senate Explained The Faculty senate of UTC is a representative group of instructors of the faculty of UTC. This gives them a voice in school affairs, and their purpose is to work with the students and administration to provide a unified faculty. The faculty senate is composed of fourteen members What are you doing after school? How many times have you heard that question? One thing which will be taking up more of your time if you're like your fellow Americans with more and more leisure hours, is recreation. Technological advances have reduced work schedules in many areas of the country and a increasing amoung of time is available for recreational activities. Ron Boyd Vice-President equality of rights. The students went up under the Utah Intercolgiate Association (UIA) It is an association of college students brought together in a model legislative session, patterned after the Utah State Legislator. The purpose of the Utah Intercolegiale Association is three fold. 1. Achieving some collegiate input into the legislative process. 2. Providing the student with the realization of the dif who represent about 120 faculty members. The Senate President is Don Phillips, Clyde Edwards, presidentelect, and Carrol Reid, Secretary-Treasurer. Other members are the last year's president, and an elected representative from each of the major divisions of UTC. Recreation men needed by There are presently 13,500 men and women in the United States earning their livings directing the leisure hours of people in their community. Generally, professionals in this field study individuals and communities and create programs geared to their needs and interests. The programs are then presented at camps, playgrounds, community centers, hospitals, and correctional institutions. Dave Nelson, Student Awareness Officer said, "If run properly and organizations this will affect every student. Students at UTC will have input into the state legislature and be able to help the schools also." Also included are the Prison program and the Counseling program. The senate represents the faculty in salary negotiations. They are working on a merit evaluation system to improve the quality of teaching at UTC. They also are maintaining a blood bank at Utah Valley Hospital. Army All age groups are included in their recreational activities throughout the year. It is the responsibility of the recreation worker to organize the standard sports, dramatics and arts and crafts activities as well as to create new programs for their groups. A career as a recreation worker can be challenging and rewarding. Today's Army can help you prepare for this career.
