G5rf a r (l ' j v- b No' 12 UTAH TKCTINICAL COLLEGE AT PROVO January 13. 1978 f j i v School Play to be Melodrama "Aaron Slick from Pumkin' Slick" has been chosen as the school play, by director George Tanner. Trvouts will be January 19 and 20 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Provo UTC cafeteria. The play only has parts tor three men and three women, however, Mr. Tanner says that he will change the play if more qualified actors try out than they have parts for. I he play is scheduled for March 2. 3. 4 at the Wilson Sorensen Student Center. After it's premier at the school, it will move to the Valley Center Playhouse and run for three to four weekends. The melodrama centers a-round a handsome but dumb hero, a beautiful and virtuous heroine and a wicked villin and illeness. The heroine owns a farm, and is being threatened by the villin w ho believes there is oil on the property. This turn of the century play has entertained thousands in theatres across the United Slates. Copies of the script will be available at the end of next week for students who would like to see their parts before reading them at the trvouts. This will be the cight',annual play that UTCP has produced since Mr. Tanner has been a member of the faculty. In the past, most of the plays have had standing room only audiences. I'll i s is the first play that the school has had to charge an admission. The studcntbody officers voted in their last meeting to require an admission and made it manditorv that they take control of the publicity and ticket sales. Trvouts for the play will begin .shortly. All students arc urged to try out for the play. THREE OFFICERS VACATE POSTS The student council has dwindled in numbers with three more members leaving this week. Sally Hull, lntramurals vice-president; Ellen Cowden, Social Vice-president, and Elissa Poul-son. Special Events Vicc-prcsi dent left their positions earlier this week. Sally Hull moved to Idaho to attend Idaho State University and live with her parents. Elissa Poulson received a job offer from Boston and relocated back there. Both were unavailable for com ment. Ellen Cowden explained her reasons for leaving. "I just wasn't seeing my husband anymore, and I felt that my marriage was more important than school", she said. "I'm not coming back to school this quarter, and as much as I regret it, I'll have to resign from the council", shecontinued. I i " H ' Ellen Cowden, Social vice president, is resigning her position because she cannot return to school this term. She says she regrets resigning but feels it is necessary. We're going to miss them, there's no doubt about that. 1 personally think all of them have a really good reason for quitting said Blake Buhler. Studcntbody President. Applications for the positions will be available at the Orem student center and lntramurals office. Interviews for the various positions will be held on Thurs-dav. January 19.
