Bateman Staff Writer Students facingproblemsrang-ing from disputes with landlords to difficulty with financial aid now have an advocate at UVCC with the beginning of the new ombudsman program. The purpose of the ombudsman is to offer students assistance with solving their problems, according to Kevin DeAdder, assistant to the student body president. DeAdder has been appointed by the student council to head this service. "The ombudsman is here to act as an arbiter between students and their problems," said DeAdder. Any difficulties a student has; legal , consumer, school related, even personal, can be taken to the ombudsman. He will then do all he can to help the student gain an equitable solution. DeAdder will soon appoint two assistants and a secretary to help him with this service. The service will also keep a lawyer on retainer as an additional resource. "We want to educate the students to solve their problems using our support," said DeAdder. He encourages all students to take advantage of this new program. DeAdder can be contacted in the Student Government offices. If he is not there, a message can be left with the secretary, Jolayne Nash. Within a month, a permanent office for the ombudsman will be established apart from the Student Government officers so problems can be dealt with confidentially. iM'.'.:i(,w w""W.''JVwi M'J.i't'JWiVJWy ...":: .,; -i ' V: ' ": ;&mmZ....Z.,., Phone-a-thon to raise funds for library The annual Utah Valley Community College Phone-a-thon will begin October 23 to help raise money for the purchase of library books for the college's library.
