Jackson, director of the UVCC Center for International Studies will address an international forum March 30 at noon in the Student Center Ballroom for students and the community. He will report on his recent trip to the People's Republic of China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan. "I am committed to providing opportunities for all UVCC students, faculty, and staff to become involved in and aware of opportunities for travel, study, and work abroad," said Jackson. Screen print t-shirts are available at the Student Center desk for $ 10 each to get students in the mood. There will be music and volleyball all week in the Student Center patio area Monday through Thursday. The Pep Band will perform on Monday. Free cotton candy will be given away. Mimes will perform and water balloons will be available for some warm weather fun. All activities will take place in the patio area. Tuesday there will be singers and free popcorn as well as a dunking booth. A full-sized game of Twister as well as a lip sync contest will add to the fun on Wednesday. Character pictures will also be available. Thursday will feature magic tricks between 11:00 and 11:30 a.m. as well as a barbeque at noon. Everyone is encouraged to wear Crazy Week t-shirts. There will also be Jell-o wrestling. A Dash for Cash dance will top off the week from 9:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. in the ballroom. 4 ti A. M , , 'i ' ' ' ' -- Is. I- if lf;!4uSfv tr ?W v w .... Many students had taken advantage of phone-in registration last quarter. from other colleges. "This is not a new business for me," he said. "I have been a banker, businessman, government employee, and education in the Far East for more than 30 years. I have confidence in UVCC internationally."Jackson lived in the People's Republic of China for six years, Hong Kong for six years, and Taiwan for five years. He has traveled extensively in Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia and is fluent in the Cantonese and Mandarin dialects of Chinese. He has also studied Japanese, Mongolian, and Russian. President Romesburg appointed to national education commission UVCC President Kerry D. Romesburg was recently appointed to an advisory commission for the American Council on Education (ACE). "The Commission serves in the area of international education policy," said Robert H. Atwell, 1990 ACE Commission president. "Its mandate takes into account the many diverse aspects of international education with which U.S. higher education is concerned and determines those areas in which Romesburg Continued on page 3 Dr. Romesburg Brown Bag forum features Forensics award winners Today's noon Brown Bag forum will feature the UVCC Forensic Team. They will be performing two readers theatre presentations from this year's regional tournma-men. The team took top honors and 38 trophies. The readers theater presentation of "Alone" will feature Doug Jolley, Tayva Patch, and Brad Evans. The second presentation, "Deformities," will feature Mike Car-rasco, Misti White, Mike Cony, and Jill Chappell. Free lunches will be given to the first 50 people attending the event. Veonne Howlett endowment scholarship fund set up An endowment scholarship fund has been set up in memory of Veonne Howlett, UVCC Dean of General Studies who died earlier this month. Gwen Hartley, personnel payroll officer for UVCC will have all the forms necessary for anyone wanting to make a payroll deduction donation as well as those desiring to make a cash donation to the scholarship fund in her honor. The scholarships will be used to help students with financial needs as this was an area about which Veonne Howlett cared a great deal.
