RADEWIND "T'' VOLUME 5 No. 31 urn Over 30 UTC -Provo and Orem athletes were honored at the annual Athletics Awards Banquet last week. Keynoting the banquet was LaDell Anderson, Athletic Director at Utah State University. Mr. Anderson praised the athletes on their excellence, telling them they would always remember their years in sports with pride. Following the address, awards were given to outstanding athletes from the rodeo, baseball and basketball teams. Lewis Field was given the Outstanding Cowboy award and Vicki Lyons was awarded Outstanding Cowgirl by Russ Black. A tribute was then paid to Russ Black, Rodeo Club Coach, who will be retiring this year. He was presented with a wall clock. Awards were also given to Jim Ruchania as Mr. Hussle and Dr. Wayne Kearney as a tongue-in-cheek All Around Cowboy. Calculators were given to Roger Scott, Alan Wild, Paul Hardman, and Rodeo Club advisor Steve Frame for their help in keeping statistics. :V-rHir-::yfSK,fl w iff 1: A new security system involving ultra-red light and silent alarms is being introduced by UTC's director of public safety, Eric Frame. The Each member of the baseball team was given a trophy for winning the ICAC. The members are: Johnny Unck, Jim Hopkin, Jon Varney, Jim Nelson, Dean Corless, Kim Carpenter, Bob Moncur, Jim Weeks, Jeff Gillette, Matt Harris, Greg Peterson, Guy Pomery, Dave Hansen, Ramon Quint ana, Mike Carter, Reggie Farlaino and Janier Chapman. Jim Hopkin was awarded the Outstanding Player Trophy and Jim Nelson won the Mr. Hussle award. The basketball team paid a tribute to Coach Gary Gardner, and gave him a jacket, for his outstanding job as a coach and a friend to the team members. Receiving the Outstanding Basketball Player award was Paul Pratt with the Mr. Hussle award going to Cory Sorenson. The Mr. Hussle awards were presented by the Intramurals Office, headed by Vince Miner. Miner gave a tribute to Gus Ewell for his service to the Intramurals office this year. As they enter the corridor, they are detected by an invisible infra-red light. This intrusion is monitored by an automated system and a silent alarm is sent to the officer on duty through his radio. The officer contacts the Orem City police for back-up and they proceed to apprehend the suspects as the remove equipment from the building. This is part of the new security system being introduced by Eric Frame, director of public safety at UTC-P. This system, only in the planning stages, will be incorporated next fall. There are two basic responsibilities, according to Chief Frame involved in the security system. These are building and property protection, and law enforcement.Under the building security plan , the college is looking at an automated monitor system for the new campus. This system will be linked by radio to the campus police vehicles. Doors, corridors, and work areas are all monitored. But Fort Knox itself can be sabotaged." Said Chief Frame. On the law enforcement end, the security department is advertising for additional men in July. The department is divided into two types of personnel. The first type are campus police officers trained at the Police Academy in Salt Lake. These people will work mainly with investigation, protection of personnel and students, and other law enforcement type duties. Also they are trained emergency medical technicians. Institute Sponsors Banquet, Dance Tonight The Institute of Religion is sponsoring a special activity on May 25, at the Orem Campus Student Center. The evening will begin with a catered banquet, costing $3-50 per plate. Tickets must be purchased in advance from the Institute Secretary. Following the banquet a number of the institute students will be given certificates of May 23, 1977 v SystfGfiffi atf DJC The other type of work is more related to buildings and facilities. They are special building protection specialists. Their responsibility would be in the area of first aid, and they must have operation knowledge of the automated monitoring equipment. "My feeling is that the mission of this institution is technical education and that we want to provide the best possibel protection for the least amount of money." Chief Frame commented on his new security system; "We are starting to move and grow with the college. I am satisfied with the rate of growth at this time." achievement for their participation in the Institute Program. The evening will be culminated with a dance, to the music of "Light Child", which will cost 50 cents. The four-year Seminary graduates of the valley will be invited to the dance, as well as all alumni.
