BBB Steps In On Advertisement By Rick Black The January 10th, issue of the Tradewinds carried an ad for Prestige models, from Patti Miner, who was promot ing the ad. The advertisement displays the heading, "Prestige-Models of New York and Paris," informing the readers of the exclusive modeling agency now locating in Utah. Ms. Miner was contacted by Bryant Wilson who is president of the Utah agency. Wilson offered Ms. Miner a position in the company as the head agency director. When she asked for the contract to be presented in writing, Wilson agreed, but no contract was ever signed. Betty Engemann of the Better Business Bureau began to investigate the agency. She contacted Prestige Modeling Agency in New York and talked with Doug Ash, vice president of the company. Ash explained that Prestige of New York is not in any way connected or affiliated with the Provo agency and disclaims any knowledge of the Utah branch. Wilson came to the Bureau Jan. 5 th, under the direction of Engemann and filled out a questionaire explaining that he and the Provo modeling agency are connected with Prestige Modeling Agency of New York and Paris. Engemann informed Wilson of the recent contact with Ash and Ash's disclaimer of any knowledge in connection with Prestige in Utah. Engemann warned Wilson that the nature of the ad and the title the Utah agency portrays (Prestige models of New York and Paris now in Utah) is deceitful and misleading to the public. As of Jan. 10th, Wilson and the Utah Prestige Agency continued to run the advertisement in local newspapers. Engemann said Prestige modeling agency in New York is disturbed and is investigating the matter. The New York agency is considering filing suit against the Utah Agency. Patti Miner called Tradewinds and said she was upset with the controversy. She added, according to the Salt Lake City and Provo offices, Doug Ash, Vice President of Prestige Modeling Agency, is fully aware of the opening of Prestige" in Utah.
