Box 1609, Provo, Utah 84603 February 28, 1983 Eissmess Mgi's 'DECA' is Number One The 1983 State DECA Contest was held February 16, 17, and 18th on the Utah State University Campus. The schools competing were UTC ProvoOrem, UTC Salt Lake, Dixie, Snow, CEUand Weber State. UTC ProvoOrem swept the competition. There were 70 UTC students entered in 15 events with UTC winning 65 of all the awards given. UTC also won 13 of 15 events or 86 of all the first place trophies. UTC made a clean sweep in two of the fifteen divisions. UTC students in HotelMotel and Restaurant Management, under the direction of Wes Bitters, took every award given in these categories. Frank Cooper, UTC DECA advisor, credited the oustanding performance to the high caliber of the UTC students involved and also to the fact that all the Business Management teachers helped organize this year's DECA. This is the third straight year that UTC ProvoOrem has dominated the state competition. UTC has won 25 of 30 first place awards in the past two years. . UTC ProvoOrem was number one in the nation last year and is in a good position to finish number one again this year with 36 UTC students traveling to Houston, Texas to compete in the National DECA competition April 26 - May 1st.
