Marvin Higbee, President of UTC. Among some of the VIP's attending will be Gordon B. Hinckley, Second Counselor of the First Presidency, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; and Kern Gardner, Chairman of the Board of Regents. Activites will be held in the new Activity Center and Student Center. Both these new projects were funded by an increase in student funds and private donations. Classes will be let out from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students will then be able to walk over and eiGi?uini3 By Neil K. Warner With the season of giving upon us, what better way to get into the spirit than by contributing to the UTC Telefund? This year's telefund hopes to raise considerably more than the $6,200 raised last year. President Higbee has issued a challenge to see who can raise more money, the faculty or the students. The winners are to be treated to hotdogs, ice cream and videos by the losers. The goal for al students is 100 percent participation, with $9 the suggested amount a B.J. Most likely there are some skeptical students who feel they are already paying too much money in tuition. If so, consider the fact that tuition only covers 23 percent of the cost of a student per term. Volleyball Takes Regionals By Shane Hudson The UTC Women's Volleyball team won the Regional Championship Tournament to advance on the the National Tourney in Miami, Florida, during the Thanksgiving break. UTC was defeated by Snow College twice during conference play, but turned around to beat the Badgers twice during the Regional Tourney. Snow's players tried to convince themselves that it was a "fluke" that they lost the first-round game. But, UTC proved it to be a "fact" and soundly defeated Snow in the finals. Terri Hinton, Diane Camp Johnson Signs With USU UTC's star basketball player Mike Johnson signed an early NCAA Scholarhship contract with Utah State University last Wednesday morning, November 14. The 6'9" Business Management major will finish the 1984 season at Utah Tech and then transfer to Logan for a two year ball schedule with the Aggies. Johnson decided to sign early to avoid the anticipated recruiting pressure and to fill the soon-to-be-open slots on the Aggie squad. Utah State has several graduating seniors on the current team. Johnson has a great 1983 basketball record. "If Mike improves the way he has in the past year, there is no telling how good he will be at the end of this season." notes Head Coach Vine Miner. Johnson averages 15 points, 3 assists, and 9 rebounds per game. The official NCAA Scholarship is the equivalent of $15,000-$20,000 a year. This money covers housing, tuition and fees, books, and many other accessories. Utah 84603 n 4 1 bell and Shauna Clark were elected members of the All-Tournament team, with Shauna receiving the Tournament's Most Valuable Player Award. It was totally a team effort. Middle hitters and blockers, Diane Campbell and Karen Bezzart shut-down Snow attacks with superb blocking. Outside hitters, Sue Lormin and Carmin Eldredge supplied the destroying force on UTC's attack. Defensive specialists Tracy Naite, Jarene Horroks and Sherrie Gibbs made spectacular defensive plays and saves. Coach Lori Richards and Assistant Coach Kathy Mendenhall were most fittingly awarded the Region 18 "Coaches of the Year" trophy. "My ladies played with so much heart; they wanted it so badly that they never gave up. I am so proud of them they are the very best ever! It was so satisfying to beat Snow College," said Coach Richards. This is the first time in the history of UTC athletics that any team has gone to the Nationals.
