Next year when the Learning Resource Center building and Trades Building are completed, one-third of the student will be on the Provo Campus and two-thirds on the Orem Campus. Operating two campuses has its problems, and we ask your understanding of these problems and you help in solving them. In reality our campus extends beyond the boundries of the Provo and Orem building sites - Utah Valley and the surrounding area is our operational area. Not all education takes place at the college center. Many programs are offered as cooperative programs in plants, offices, stores, hospitals, and factories. A close contact with business, industry, and labor makes the programs and classes at this college a viable and meaningful experience for each student. You have been wise in your choice to come to Utah Tech, because here you will find teachers willing and anxious to help you in every way to prepare adequately for your life's work. Your learning will take place as fast as you will put forth the effort to learn. A friendly atmosphere is part of the environment at UTC-P. Be a part of this and you'll enjoy all that takes place here. Encourage you friends to join you here. This year we have a Job Placement Office which will assist you in getting a job when you are ready to go to work. All that is done here at UTC-P is to help the student become an effective and productive worker, and a good citizen on the job and in the community. WE ARE GLAD YOU ARE HERE! WILSON W. SORENSEN President Resident Wilson W. Sorenson (7 if L The philosophy of the student council this year according to Blake Buhler, student council president, is to provide "more of a quality type activity than quantity." "We may have less activities, but they will be better activities," Buhler said. One of the events they student council is planning for the coming year in achieveing that goal is to hand out packets to everyone who has registered. These packets will contain small wallet-size calendars of all the events planned for the year, and quarterly calendar of every activity going on in the school. A student handbook is another one of the services being provided by the student council this year. The student handbook will inform the student where every new office will be; a statement from President Sorensen and a statement from many of the clubs on the campus. In about two weeks, the student directories will be available to the students. These directories will contain the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of all the students at the school. According to Mr. Buhler, this year's student council has planned all the activities for the entire year in advance rather than on a quarter basis. By doing this, he theorized, everyone will know what will be happening, thus eliminating confusion. Another new feature this year is the student senate. One area that Mr. Buhler especially emphasized was the general education issue. "I feel very optimistic about the activities we are planning, and that they will be executed proficiently," he commented regarding his feelings abou the new year. Cultural VP Resigns Post Ingnd Logan, Studentbody Cultural Vice President has given her resignation to the student council. She feels she cannot adequately perform in her duties because of a heavy work schedule. The student council is taking applications for the position. Applications are available at the information desks on both the Orem and Provo Campuses. An Advertising Committee is also being formed. Any student interested in this committee should fill out an application at the information desk also.
