September 22, 1977 ,17; The Provo Campus of the Utah Technical College, will still be used by students in classroom facilities, however, several rooms have been given to administration, providing much needed space. Registration Procedure Explained STEP I Pick up Packet A. New students who have not previously made application for fall quarter: Go to Dean of Student's Office, complete an application, have it accepted and initialed. Pick up registration cards and proceed to Step 2. B. Students who have completed and turned in an application for fall quarter: Proceed to table marked "A". Pick up your application and registration cards. Proceed to Step 2. C. Returning Students who have not registered: If you have not filled out an application for fall quarter, go to Dean of Student's Office, complete an application, have it accepted and initialed. Proceed to table marked "A". Pick up your registration packet and advance to Step 2. STEP II Pick up Course Cards Proceed down stairs marked "A". (Technology students: Commercial art, Drafting Design Tech., Electrical Automation, Electronics, and Electromechanical Technology will go up stairs marked "A".) Go to your chosen major and see an advisor. The advisor will issue your course cards. Make sure you have your registration card and your receipt card filled out properly with your classes listed on each of them. They must be initialed by your advisor. Be sure to write your social security number in the blocks of each one of your course cards. STEP III Assessment of fees Proceed to the preliminary check table. Your cards must be checked and your fees assessed before proceeding any further. Students getting financial aid or scholarships checks, proceed to Step 4. Students paying their own fees (including students with tuition waivers), go to Step 5. STEP IV Financial Aids Students receiving financial aids or scholarships checks (fee card marked "Scholarship" (check) go to Step 4 (faculty lounge), obtain your check release, and proceed to Step 5. BIA, CETA, or WIN students on financial aids, take the check and release form to the Business Office - main floor - Step 6. STDPV Registration number Proceed to table marked Step 5. Have your cards stamped with registration number and go on toStep7. STEP VI Sponsored Students Have your registration cards stamped and validated. Proceed to final check-out table - Step 8 at top of stairs "B". STEP VII Payment of Tuition and Fees Go to the cash register area and pay your fees. Proceed to check-out table, Step 8 at the top of stairs "B". step vni Final Check-ou Table Turn in your registration packet KEEP YOUR RECEIPT CARD. Actually all three campuses have been operating since September 1976. Approximately one-third of the students will be utilizing the facilities of the Orem campus. Courses being taught on the new campus all the business education classes and most of the automotive classes. The student center will also be operating from there. The Orem campus was originally purchased as the sole campus. A ruling last year by the Board of Regents changed that. Now the plans are to maintain campuses in both Provo and Orem. Maintaining multiple campuses can create problems. Housing near the Orem campus is limited. A travel-lodge was built directly across the street in an attempt to help solve some of this proble. Student and instructor transportation between both campuses is another problem sparked by the maintenance of multiple campuses. Wilson W. Sorenson, president of Utah Technical College, said that they were trying to work the schedules so that there would be a minimum amount of shuttling between campuses. "Whenever possible we will try to move instructors rather than students." He commented. Other problems created by the maintenance of multiple campuses include mail distribution. The bookstore, administrative offices, and other areas being operated from one UK Mils Utah Technical College at Provo will begin its fall quarter with the addition of 15 new full-time instructors. The new teachers bring to 137 the total teaching faculty at the school according to Dr. Dee Martin, Educational Vice President. The full-time teacher total does not include the many part-time instructors in the evening school and is separate from administrators and non-teaching personnel. With fall quarter at UTC-Provo scheduled to begin on September 26, the additional teachers are necessary to accomodate the school's growth and two-campus operation, Dr. Martin said. Security for the new campus is yet another problem. This is being deterred by the expansion of the security program at Utah Technical. Two new full-time police offecers are being hired, bringing the police force up to 5 men working full-time. A sophisticated electronic monitoring system is being installed in the Orem campus. The maintenance crew has been increased greatly to help maintain the multiple campuses.15 foil-time and said they will be a credit to the institution. The new teachers come to the school with varied backgrounds and interests: Lana Anderson, Office Education, formerly business teacher at Provo High School; Barbara Bearnson, Occupational Home Econ-momics, taught at Auburn University in Alabama; Carl Crawford, an electrical apprentice trainer for Utah Power and Light; Norman Crosby, service manager for Harry Heathman Auto Dealership. Marvyn Kesler, Building Trades Instructor at College of the Sequoias in California; Constance Polve, registered nurse and senior team leader in pediatrics at Utah Valley Hospital; Dudley Rowley, 7 Besides a campus in Provo, and one in Orem, there is yet a third campus operating. The Bonham Building, located on 3rd West in Provo houses the building trades and professional driving programs. This facility is rented currently by the school. The school will continue renting for the 1977-78 school year. President Sorenson noted that Utah Technical College is the fastest growing institution of higher learning in the state of Utah. That fact makes expansion necessary.
