Volume 8 No. 23 OFFICIAL NEWSPAPER OF UTAH TECHNICAL COLLEGE AT PROVOOREM - May 22,1980 Dr. Cazier of USU to Address Graduating Class Dr. Stanford Cazier, President of Utah State University, will address the graduates of Utah Tech at the 1980 commencement exercises to be held May 29 on the Orem Campus. Associate degrees and certificates will be awarded to nearly 500 students who will hear the traditional commencement address, from Stanford Cazier. The exercises will begin at 6 p.m. at a specially-prepared outdoor area adjacent to the Trades Building. In case of inclement weather it will be moved inside to the Student Center. The public is invited. Utah Tech President Wilson W. Sorensen will preside at the exercises, a task he has performed ever since the school's first such rites in 1949 when two students formed the first formal graduating class. He assumed the helm of the school in 1945 when it was taken over by the state of Utah after serving as a war manpower training center since 1941. As of now, 478 students are qualified for graduation. The figure may go up or down slightly by May 29. For several years the college has graduated in the Canyon Party Today U.T.C.'s canyon party will be held today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Vivian Park in Provo Canyon. Food, provided by the school, will be served from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. and everyone's favorite games will be played for the remainder of the time along with many other fun activities. Dr. Cazier began his career in education in 1960 as an instructor in history at Utah State University. He completed work on his Ph.D. in history in 1964 at the University of Wisconsin and eventually became a full professor in 1971 at USU. Dr. Cazier assumed the presidential office at USU in 1979 after nearly 20 years of educational experience. He is a native Utahn; born in Nephi. Kartchner Reorganization of College Appoints New Deanships Effective July 1, 1980, the instructional area of the College will undergo reorganization. A major change of this reorganiation is the creation of three dean-ships with significant responsibility for their respective departments, and the merger of the current 23 departments and programs into 13. After three days of screening for these positions, the search committees recommended top candidates to the Vice Presidents Office. After consideration by President Sorensen and Vice President Martin, the following appointments were made. The objectives of this reorganization are. to facilitate positive communication between faculty and administrative staff and to clarify decision-making processes within the instructional areas. Michael Tindel has been selected as Business Wolverines Face Heart-Break in NJCAA Regionals The Wolverine baseball ' team lost a squeaker last Saturday in a 9-8 duel against Mesa Community College. The loss quenched the fire that was to carry coach Dave Nelson and the boys to the National Junior College Baseball Finals in Grand Junction, Colorado. "It was tear -jerking to see the season come to a Stoddard in planning, coordinating, organization, and management in supervision of department coordinators, faculty, and staff. In addition to institutional contacts, the position entails extensive contacts with LEA's, the USOE, the USBR and its staff, other state and federal agencies, civic and professional organizations and employers.The position also is responsible for coordination of class schedules with other deans, developing programs of continuing education, support of cooperative education, recommendation of appointment of faculty for Tradewinds Manager. He brings with him seven years selling experience for Zellerback Paper Co. He is currently majoring in pre-law. Photographer will be Lisa Wardel a sophomore from Orem.
