Volume 10 Number 13 OFFICIAL NEWSPAPER OF UTAH TECHNICAL COLLEGE AT PROVOOREM January 15, 1982 UTC Snuffs r ByC. N.Chatterley Utah Tech locked horns with Western Wyoming College on the basketball court here in Orem last Saturday nite, Jan. 9. Starting for the first half as well as the second was Brent Lott, Dave Palmer, Daryl Zenger, Mark Lee and Carl "Woodie" Woodward. The first half of the game was evenly paced with not much excitement. The Tech stayed on top with anywhere from a 12 to 2 point lead. The second half was a somewhat different story. The Tech's nervous ball handling and unlucky breaks let Western swap the lead with them several times, but never gaining more than a 3 points ahead of the Tech. From the foul line. Woodward tied the game 58-58, with about 5 minutes left to play. From then on it was smootn skiing for the Tech with Dave Lee sinking several in a row to widen the gap. However, on their way back up the scoreboard the Tech got a little rowdy, with some fouls called on them, giving Western some extra time at the free throw line. With about 3 minutes left to play, the Tech had a comfortable 10 point lead, thanks to Zenger and Woodward's outside shooting and Brent Lott and Mark Lee's inside hustle. The final score was 75-68. Tops in point was Carl Zenger with 21 and Carl Woodward with 20. Tops in rebounds were Brent Lott and Mark lee with 8 apiece. UTC Basketball defeated Western Wyoming in a recent basketball game. Boasts Large Winter Schedule By Roxanne Banks The PE classes offered this semister are Arobic dancing from 12-1 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Archery and karate are taught on the Provo Campus. At the Orem Recreation Center, there are a variety of classes. They offer basketball from 12-1 on Mondays and Wednesdays. Volleyball is at 11 and 12 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Raquetball is also taught at 11, 1 and 2 on Monday and Wednesday or on Tuesday and Thursday. There is a fee of $16.00, which is only 75 cents every time. There is also a very good fitness program including jogging, weight training and beginning swimming and diving. They have one of the best pool's in the state. There is also a very good outside recreation class offered on Tuesday afternoons at 2:00. You can snow shoe, soar, rock climb, cave explore or go kaiking. Sundance offers a beginning skiing class on Tuesdays at 1:00. There is a fee of $40.00. Utah Tech has an excellent staff for physical education program: Vince Miner, basketball; Tom Perkins, basketball and Raquetball; Lori Richards, Volleyball and Brian Funk, volleyball, weight training, raquetball and jogging. Doug Jorgensen is head of the ski program. Lori Newby is over swimming and diving. Ann Cox is the Area Cordinator over P.E. and Health. She has done an excellent job getting all these classes together for us. January Activities Show Full Schedule This month at the UTC there are many activities for students to participate in besides giving the basketball team support at home games. There are movies every Thursday night: on the 14th, Night Hawks, "R"; the 21st, Elephant man "PG"; and the 28th, "Hello Dolly "G". The movies start at 7:30 p.m. in Room SCI 10, Orem Campus. On Friday the 22nd there will be a Victory Dance after the basketball game against C.E.U. The dance will start at 9:30 and the band will be "Light Year". For the outdoor enthusiasts there is a snowmobile trip to Yellowstone Park starting Thursday the 28th and going until Saturday the 30th. Coming up next month is Homecoming, Sweetheart Dance and a night ski trip to Solitude.
