David Jones, assistant attorney general, informed Mecham that it was legal to manent campus in Wasatch County. Three landowners, Jim Winkler, Clark Hall, and Gary Willey, contacted UVSC President Kerry Romesburg several months ago, proposing to donate some land to the college. Romesburg embraced the deal, calling the area a "nice site" on which to build a campus. The property, about one mile month, VarsityBooks.com will grant 16 awards-one $10,000 award, five $5,000 awards, and ten $1,000 awards. Recipients of the $10,000 scholarship will then be eligible for a final $25,000 award at the end of the year. F.ducators involved in distance learning programs broadcast on television and the Internet are encountering new legal problems regarding teaching materials. Loretta Palmer, UVSC's director of distance learning, said the conference will help teachers and institutions protect their intellectual property and production rights. "In distance learning, the development of instructional materials becomes marketable. The question is, who owns the materials that are being developed," Palmer said. Greg Upchurch, nationally known copyright attorney and keynote speaker at the conference explained, "Just because you purchase a book from Amazon.com, for example, doesn't mean you have the right to make copies of the book." Upchurch said a lot of information passed through e-mail is copyrighted material.
