TRADEWIND VOL. 4, NO. 16 UTAH TECHNICAL COLLEGE OF PROVO FEBRUARY 23c1976 Team Has Potential PROVO CITY MAYOR, Russell Grange Provo's Mayor Grange Speaks on lob Situation On February 24 at noon, Mayor Russell Grange will speak at a forum to be held in the Career Development Center, room M 105. This forum will be the first in a series to be held in the CDC. Various speakers will be brought in from the community to present the 'on-the-job" descriptions of how it is to work in the various professions. Mayor Grange will discuss such topics as the 40 increase in populations and what is being done to provide jobs for those who are moving in or growing in to the job market. A question-and-answer period will be held after the forum to allow students to get the answers to questions pertaining to city government and policies. The Career Development Center director, Moni Morell, stated, "It ought to be a lot of fun. This could be a great help to students who need answers to questions about their professions, especially later on as we develop the program." UTC Rodeo The Utah Technical College in Salt Lak e has announced that its Rodeo scheduled this semester has been cancelled until Spring semester.lt is re -scheduled for the last week in May. The western dance, however, is still scheduled for Feb. 27th. Steve Trane, the assistant advisor, says concerning the clubs future activities, We have about 35 to 40 members, and we aia UTC Personnel Gain Salary Rights As a result of recent Legislature action, classified personnel expect to get an increase in salary of about 12 percent beginning July 1, 1976. Under this law, classified personnel include secretaries and custodians. According to Senator Ernest Dean, there are two reasons for the salary hike. 'The first reason is that UTC 's classified employees have been paid on a lower scale than classified personnel from other Utah universities and colleges," he explains. The Board of Regents was given the responsibility to catch up the salary differences for the UTC classified personnel. This enables the Provo personnel to be paid on the same scale as other colleges and universities classified personnel. Dean concluded that Legislature appropriated half a million dollars to be used for an increase in the salaries of classified personnel at all Utah universities and colleges. Needless to say, secretaries and custodians at UTC hav e voiced resounding approval of the measure. One custodian commented "It should have happend a long time ago." Rescheduled planning to enter in as many Rodeos this spring as possible. As a team we have potential to score high in collegiate competition but we'll have to work. At the present time we're looking good." The next collegiate Rodeo will be held March 12-13 at Weber State in Ogden. Three programs are on top, the first one Friday night and the other two on Saturday. This will take place in the Golden Spike arena, in Ogden. As is the case in most collegiate sports, a process of elimination takes place to determine the top Rodeo performers in this area. The league is the Rocky Mountain Region, Those that do well will get to represent Chosen For February Woman of the Month Barbara Roundy, a sophomore majoring in office occupations from Delta, Utah was chosen as February's woman of the month. Barbara, a member of P.B.L., plans to go with them to Washington D.C. this summer after her graduation in June. After that she will return to Delta and try to get a job as a secretary. Barbara's plans for the future include working as a secretary and eventually getting married. She enjoys sewing for herself, has two brothers and two sisters, X I I 4 . FEBRUARY'S WOMAN of For Spring their school in the national collegiate Rodeo this spring. The site of that event is not definite as yet. U.T.C. will field a men and girls team in events such as barrel racing, calf-roping, team-tying, and bareback riding. Team members practice ITuesday and Thurs. nights of every week to prepare for these various events and meets. Those who are interested are encouraged to perform with the club. The team will be participating in the Weber rodeo. All future events will be posted as they will be occurring. The rodeo club is also planning a dance in the Steel-workers Union Hall on the 27th. Tech. Students wilJ be charged 50? and all others $1.00. and likes all sports. Barbara is currently working for the Drafting department at UTC. She says that, "Becoming woman of the month was quite an honor, and I appreciate the opportunity of going to UTC. I'm grateful to the students and teachers at UTC for giving me their trust and confidence." Women of the month are chosen by heads of each department on the basis of potential, achievement, grade point average, and ability to get along with others. ; i i the Month, Barbara Roundy.
