3 Vol. No. 29 UTAH TECHNICAL COLLEGE AT PROVO May 15, 1979 New Student Officers Take Oath of Office UTCProvo-Orem Stu-dentbody Officers were in-agurated at a banquet held May 3 on the Orem campus. Some 35-40 students, faculty and officials attended the event. Bruce Burnett welcomed the guests, and Bill Olds offered the invocation. After the banquet, President Wilson W. Sorensen gave the Oath of Office to the new officers and presented a gavel to Lee Barrus, Student-body President. Lavar Rockwood, Dean of Administrative Services, addressed the new officers. He told them that there would be Institute to Hold Hawian Style Closing Social for Student Body The Institute of Religion will be holding their closing social on May 24 at 7:30 at the Institute of Religion. It is entitled "An Evening with the Aloha Islanders" and will include a full course Hawiian dinner, Island Dance program and Leis for everyone. The menu will include Kalua Pua', which is pork roasted to tenderness in an underground oven, and seasoned to give the "Hawaiian" smoked flavor. It will also feature Mao Ai, which is boned chicken combined with crisp vegetables and long rice. Final Exams Begin on May 25 The last day for class room attendance will be May 24. Finals will begin May 25, FINAL EXAMINATION SCHEDULE INSTRUCTIONS: Read across to the day(s) of your class, then read down and find the starting time of that class. This is your FINAL EXAM day and time. Students having more than two exams on one day, may request a rescheduling of the third exam at a different time. See your instructor to make this arrangement. Final exam week will be the last week of fall, winter, and spring terms. Awards were given to the outgoing council for the work they have done this year. The old council presented Tom Hover and Anne Richards with placques for the help that they gave during the year. Becky North, 78-79 Historian, presented a history of the outgoing administration to Lee Barrus. Th- anks were also given to Margaret Sullivan and the Food Service staff for the dinner. Other foods include Laiki, which is oriental rice; Niu Mea Ai, which is Butter cake;Haole Ai, which is green salad, and Waimaka O'Pele, a combination of seven exotic fruit juices blended with pineapple sherbert. The program will include music and dances from Tahiti, Hawaii, New Zealand and Samoa. It will last an hour. According to Institute President Brian Partridge ticket sales are limited to 200 persons and there will be no sales at the door. The tickets can be purchased at the institute for $5.00 . The only financial aid a-vailable for Summer quarter is for continuing students who have previously been receiving financial aid. There will be no new scholarships issued for Summer quarter. Pre-registration for continuing students will be held May 23, 24, 25 at the Provo Campus. Registration packets will be available the forenoon of Wed., May 23 at the Orem Campus. Evening courses for the Summer quarter will be: Collision Repair, Constitutional Law, Criminal Investigation and Real Estate. There will be a new fee schedule effective Summer quarter. Non-residents may attend school for resident fees. Spring Sunfest and Boogie Scheduled for May 16 at Canyon UTC will be hosting its annual "Spring Sunfest and Boogie" on May 16 in Canyon Glen, located in Provo Canyon. The Spring Sunfest and Boogie is normally known as the UTC Canyon party but student council members wanted to be more original this year. The party will begin at 12 noon and will end at 5 p.m. Classes will be let out at 1 p.m. so students can attend. A bus will leave at 1:15 p.m. for those who don't have transportation. Some of the activities will be volleyball, baseball and a horseshoe throwing tournament. Those interested in the horseshoe tourney should sign up in advance in the games center on the Orem campus. There will also be some activities for younger children so parents can bring their families. These activities will include sack races, wa-terballoon tosses and etc. Hot dogs will be the main food. These will cost $.10 but will include all the "trim-ins." All other food, potatoe chips, -potatoe salad, ice cream and drinks will be free of charge. The event is being sponsored by the newly elected student council. All Positions receive a tuition wavier plus a salary or commission. Unly full-time students with a 2.5 GPA should apply. Students chosen for these positions must be planning to spend the year at UTC. Qualifications for theEditor-in-Chief position include a knowledge of journalism, editing and writing skills, and some layout experience. To fill the photographer position, a student must have a very thorough knowledge of darkroom concepts and picture taking. Resumes will be requested for both of these positions.
