Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, UTC Chapter Scrapbooks
This collection consists of three scrapbooks that were compiled by the officers of the Utah Technical College at Provo (UTC-P) Chapter of Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, or VICA. They include photographs of members and events, chapter newsletters, and programs from conferences and competitions that members attended or in which they competed.
Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, or VICA (now SkillsUSA) was a national career and technical student organization that encouraged technical school students to develop leadership and career skills. VICA offered state and national competitions, and Utah Technical College at Provo won many of these competitions. The UTC-Provo Chapter was organized in 1969 with the help of Don Pendergrass, an auto body instructor, and indeed, most of the 8 student members were in the auto body field. But over the years membership grew, and by the time these scrapbooks were compiled between 1973 and 1977, UTC-Provo's membership included nurses, dental assistants, machinists, draftsmen, electricians, as well as auto body and auto mechanics students. In 1973 the UTC-Provo Chapter was the third largest chapter in the country, with 315 members.
